Funding the Homeland
The Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland is a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
So much of what makes our work possible is the generosity of time and financial support of many individual donors from such incredibly varied backgrounds...and for that we say Qe’ ci’ yew’ yew’!
Other Funding Sources
The Virtual Exhibit Tour found on this website was made possible by funding from the Oregon Cultural Trust, Oregon Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Federal Cares Act. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this exhibition do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Tamkaliks Film Project was funded by State Library of Oregon through the American Rescue Plan Act, The Collins Foundation, Eastern Oregon Visitors Association with support from Travel Oregon, Wild Carrot Herbals, and individual donors.
Other funding has been provided to the Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland from Oregon Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the 2020 Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020, the Inatai Foundation, and Seeding Justice.
The Wallowa Band Nez Perce Trail Interpretive Center, Inc., DBA Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland (NPWH), was founded with a grant from the Oregon Trail Coordinating Council. This grant was matched with grants from Lamb Foundation, US Forest Service, Oregon Community Foundation, Cycle Oregon, Meyer Memorial Trust, Northeast Oregon Alliance, Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, and many gifts from individuals and businesses. The Rural Business Cooperative Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided funds for purchase of another 160 acres and further site development. A stock donation was used to begin a permanent endowment fund for site management and NPWH programs. The fund is managed for NPWH by the Oregon Community Foundation. The construction of a traditional Longhouse, was funded by donations, ranging from $10 to $75,000, from many individuals in the community and by generous support from Meyer Memorial Trust, The Ford Family Foundation, The Collins Foundation and Oregon Community Foundation. The renovation of our guesthome was funded by Seeding Justice, Wildhorse Foundation, and generous donors.

Legacy & Planned Giving
Legacy giving—also called planned giving—is a way for supporters to make a future gift that reflects their long-term commitment to the land, culture, and community work of the Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland. These gifts are often arranged through a will or estate plan, retirement account, or life-insurance beneficiary designation. Planned gifts allow donors to continue caring for wal’áwa (Wallowa) beyond their lifetime and help ensure that the work of welcoming people home, strengthening cultural connection, and stewarding wal’áwa (Wallowa) can continue for generations. Anyone can make a legacy gift—of any size—and we are grateful for those who choose to include the Homeland in their long-term plans.
Ways to Leave a Legacy
Include a gift in your will or estate plan
A simple bequest can designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a remainder gift.
Name NPWH as a beneficiary of a retirement account
You can designate the Homeland as a beneficiary of an IRA, 401(k), or other retirement plan.
Name NPWH as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy
An easy way to create a future gift without affecting your current finances.
Leave a gift through a donor-advised fund
Many donors choose to name charitable beneficiaries when setting up or updating their DAF.
Honor someone with a legacy gift
Memorial or tribute gifts can be arranged through estate plans or beneficiary designations.
