We are going on a hunting trip.
October 17–21, 2026.
Meat Camp leaders do not provide a guided hunt, and the number of camp participants who hunt may be limited.
Those who hunt must be eligible to exercise treaty hunting rights and are responsible for following the laws and regulations of their Tribe.
About Meat Camp:
Meat Camp is based at the Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland, with hunting and other activities taking place elsewhere in wal’áwa.
Meat Camp is informed by experienced Nez Perce cultural practitioners and community members who share teachings related to hunting, meat processing, hide tanning, and food preservation. Participants learn through hands-on experience, observation, storytelling, and working alongside people who carry this knowledge.
Families participate together across generations. Hunting is part of the camp for eligible participants, while other activities provide opportunities for adults and youth to learn and work together. The camp concludes with a community meal where prepared food is shared.
Hunting is part of the Meat Camp experience for some participants, along with spending time on the land in wal’áwa, processing meat, working with hides, preserving food, and sharing knowledge across generations.
